So, I made  this hot tuna pasta salad, settled in in front of the TV, choose American Idol over Ugly Betty – and AI wasn’t too bad tonight.  

I thought  they made much ado about nothing – but they did visit two cities in one show – NYC and Puerto Rico, flip flopping back and forth between cities and contestants. 

That probably  worked, but I didn’t see it as anything special.

There was Jessica  who has entered 700 contests and has won some, but not this one – then she argues, pleads, and begs – bye, bye Jessica.

Another hopeful,  likes to sing and dance naked in her bedroom and hopes her singing uplifts humanity.  Simon said she was a happy little thing and she got happier ’cause she won a yellow ticket.

The Crazy  Rocker didn’t win but Norman did. 

Next week  is the first show from Hollywood  - yawn & stretch or ohmigawd spectacular ????

Today at lunch  I asked DJ, “Well, how many more days ’til you split this hick town?”

“It’s not  days anymore – it’s back to years – at least three.”

“What ? Why years?  I thought you were all set to retire in June or July ?”

“Because  in the past year, I’ve lost over $60,000 of my retirement pension.”  She took of sip of Chambord on ice, and continued, while I sat with my mouth hanging open. 

“And I hope  to hell that it  only takes three years  to recoup this loss.” she said on the second gulp.

The truth is  that DJ has been planning her retirement for years – almost to the point of being comical. 

Her goal  has been to retire before she’s 60, while her friends, me included, are always teasing her about it.  “Geez, DJ, just buy it for God’s sake, you can’t take it with you.” we’d tout at some art fair alien-looking object d’art she’d be drooling over – but not often purchasing.

Suddenly  I had a déjà vu moment – a few weeks ago, another friend told me that she was delaying her retirement because of a hit her pension took. 

Now,  I’m thinking that if my “baby boomer” friends can’t retire and will have to continue working to recoup these recent losses – we’re going to have a lot of very GROUCHY old people in the workforce for the next few – 3, 5, 10 years. 

Imagine it ~ From a 70 year old unable to retire ~   

  • You wanted what ?  Wadda’  think this is – a restaurant?  Oh, oh yeah, I forgot.   So what – eat this or die!
  • Get off – Get off now – Get the hell off this bus before I …
  • I said, I’m looking for the Murphy file,  I’m looking for it as fast as I can, and when I find it, I’ll give it to you as fast as I can – GOT IT!
  • Is that credit or debit – or are you paying cash just so you can rub my nose in it, you little sonnavabitch.

 So to ponder ~

Many Baby Boomers have been working for about 40 years  but now have retirement/pension plans decimated by this DEPRESSION  -  now what ?    Bailouts?

With so many  companies closing and employees losing their jobs – if Baby Boomers lose their jobs, plus take these pension hits  -  now what ?

Consider  the ripple effects on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and more - now what ?

So, how the hell  do over 13 million, American Baby Boomers make up these losses - now what ?   (Census Bureau info)

That fast moving bus  is starting to look better and better .

Barack Obama  - 44th President – we’ve transferred the presidency 44 times over the past 220 years.  America has had, said, and done it all: honorable and horrific; revolutions and revolutionary, imaginable and unimaginable – but the United States stands as an independent, self-governing omnibus.  By the luck of the draw or the will of God ~ I am proud to be an American.

Barack & Michelle – I’m too old for them – imagine, dancing with their arms around each other – have we ever seen that before ????  But – I do love that they stayed out past midnight.

Obama & Roberts – the FLUB - equaled the Diana & Charles reversed names wedding-vows flub.  No problem – it’s always the intent; witnesses are just the icing.

Obama & Bidden – diddin’cha’ just love it when Biden tried to make a joke at the swearing-in of senior staff folk, about Roberts’ oath stumble  ?  Obama’s compressed lips never moved – but his right arm slowly raised, his right hand touching Biden’s elbow, steering Joe to the podium.  I wonder if Obama squeezed tightly, his vibe’s traveling to Biden’s brain – “Shut up and just do your job!  No jokes, no jibes, nothing except YOUR JOB, JOE !”

Obama & Hillary – I’m still disappointed Hill didn’t win – oh, well – time will.  

Obama – putting in time on Saturday – it’s about goddamn, (interjection only) time, someone works overtime on our issues – YES !  

Jill Biden & Oprah – The audience did – but I wasn’t sure that Op, (rhyme’s w/nope), caught the faux pas until later ????  

Miss America – Katie Stam from Indiana – huh ?   Miss America this week ?  Inauguration week ?   Who scheduled that ?   I love that I didn’t say anything about this last week – hindsight is a blessing as long as   …

Blago  (Blagojevich) - one attorney down – how many more to go ? 

  • Blago – from me to you – resign, please.  Do it with grace – don’t go away – come back contrite – be the ultimate  underdog that everyone wants to give a second chance to – huh – ?

my car key remote to also open my house door – right ?  I have my keys in my hand, a grocery bag or two, my handbag, the mail – CLICK, turn doorknob, I’m in; CLICK – door locks behind me.  Done !

baseboards that flip up, hiding a vacuum system  that sucks away the cat hair, dog hair, and dust bunnies at floor level – right ?   I hit a switch, a few baseboard sections flip up, exposing a slit through which a stream of mega-suction cleans up under the bed, the couch, the kitchen floor, and everywhere else – from all sides of the room !

 What else do I want ? 

 Feb 22, 2009 ~   in looking up directions and addresses on Google maps, I even need the aerial view – so everyone should be painting their addresses numbers on their roofs – right ?

American Idol Luull-vill ~ second week /second show

Okay – second week - third show.  Disclaimer - I’m not a Myidol watcher – just a blogger.

I missed  Tuesday’s show and after tonight’s –  I’ve become jaded.

Today’s audition-show  was only an hour long, so it was only half as bad as last week’s show. 

Maybe not even half.  They either edited the hell out of the show or there was a car-wash opening in Kain-tuk someplace, giving away those hanging pine-tree deodorizers, that was more appealing.

Right off the bat, there were the usual screeching cats, costumed wanna-be’s, criers, and beggars.

Instead of saying, “have a good day” some poor soul said, “be careful” as he left after losing, and Paula took it as a threat, with Simon backing her up.  I’m pretty sure that was a first. 

Oh well, back to the nerd, the zebra, the vibrato, the over excited-woo-woo-kid,  all sent home empty handed.

Then the last contestant - Leneshe (sp? I couldn’t write that fast) – singing a song she wrote and pretty well too.

Maybe one hour was enough – ya’ think?
